39 Mini Habits That Will Make 2017 Your Best Year Ever

Small changes make a big difference. It can be tough to commit to a new habit that takes a lot of time out of your day. But these mini habits all take 5 minutes or less, and by practicing all of them (not all at once, try to add a few every month!) at the end of 2017, you will hopefully feel super accomplished!


  1. Make your bed right after waking up in the morning.
  2. Pick up clutter and tidy your room before going to sleep at night.
  3. Put things back where you found them (this will make #2 even easier).
  4. Briefly plan your day in a notebook or on a post-it note.
  5. Talk to strangers. Treat them like friends.
  6. Trust your gut.
  7. Do what you love. But seriously. Even if it’s just five minutes a day. Do what you love.
  8. Invest in your LinkedIn profile. Add some people you know. Make sure all your work experience is listed correctly and make sure to add your skills.
  9. Pay attention to your posture. If you spend a lot of time in front of the computer, maybe it’s time to buy a laptop standard or a better chair.
  10. Send thank-you notes and birthday cards.
  11. Buy a chapstick keychain. You will never lose your chapstick again.
  12. Dress nice. Even if you have no reason to.
  13. Leave early and arrive on time.
  14. Limit the amount of processed food you eat.
  15. Slow down a bit. Yes, even if you’re busy.
  16. Be quiet sometimes. Silence can be beautiful.
  17. Think about how you can help others. Then do it.
  18. Volunteer. It will not only make others happy, but you too.
  19. Jot down ideas the moment you have them.
  20. Smile at people. You will brighten their day.
  21. Choose experiences over material possessions.
  22. Visit a new place. Even if it’s in your own state/country.
  23. Stop comparing yourself to others.
  24. Drink more water and cut down of caffeine.
  25. Meditate for one minute every day.
  26. Read at least two pages of a book every day.
  27. When you like something about a person, compliment them.
  28. Go outside every day, even if you have no reason to.
  29. Stop being harsh on yourself. You are allowed to make mistakes.
  30. Name three things you’re thankful for every night before bed. You can write them down, but even if you make the list in your head you’re good!
  31. Do the most important task first. It will make your day better!
  32. Say no to long meetings if you can.
  33. Surround yourself with people that inspire you. Ever heard of the saying ‘you are the people you surround yourself with’. Exactly. 
  34. Listen to your body. If you need a break, take it. If you’re exhausted, go to bed early.
  35. Clean out your car every time you leave it. Take the empty cups and wrappers and throw them away.
  36. Pack food for your flight. Now you don’t have to pay a small fortune anymore when you’re killing time at the airport.
  37. Invest in a better pillow. Seriously, it’s worth it.
  38. Clean your home once a month. I’m not just talking about mopping the floors. Throw stuff away you haven’t used and tidy everything.
  39. Embrace failure and learn from it. Everyone fails at one point or another, and that’s totally okay.
