My monthly memories: May 2016

My Monthly Memories is a blogging event created by Basant She.This event is a way of keeping a collection of everything you’ve been going through, what you’ve experienced and what you’ve learned.

I know I repeat myself every month, but my head is still in March and we’re heading into June! The year is going by quicker than ever, and sometimes I feel like I’m holding onto something that’s slipping out of my fingers, you know? That ‘something’ would be time. I want to record it all, and enjoy it all. Let’s look at the highlights of last month.

Mother’s Day

The first BBQ of this year was on Mother’s Day! My whole family got together and we enjoyed tasty chicken and this salad. I’m telling you, my mom makes the best salads. I eat them without a dressing and I don’t even miss it. It was lovely to see my family and hang out. My family is large so it doesn’t happen that often that we’re all in the same room together. I enjoy the rare times it happens.

Lovely Rotterdam

After traveling to Rotterdam every single day for four months straight for school and my internship, it was weird when I suddenly didn’t have to anymore. But because of that, I feel like I enjoyed the city even more. I love how Rotterdam is so unique and charming in a modern, industrial way. I love the people, the atmosphere, the architecture.

I took this picture after I heard I’m welcomed into a two-year uni course, which I’m really happy about. I walked around the city for over two hours that day, just enjoying the sounds and sunshine. That brings me to my next point..

Walking and walking and walking. And running!

I bought myself a Fitbit Charge HR this month! It’s my first Fitness/activity tracker, and I LOVE it. It’s been motivating me so much to get out more and hit that step goal or do that extra workout. They’re expensive, but I did get mine on sale. I can definitely recommend them to anyone who is a data junkie like me!

I have been taking lots of beautiful walks in the woods close to my house. It’s more like a tiny little forest, if you ask me. I usually listen to the sounds of nature or lose myself in a podcast. It’s been making my Fitbit happy too, haha.

I’ve also been running a lot and upping my distance. Super excited about that! I ran 8km last week, and I’m planning to up that too 10km (6 miles) in June. I’m a little nervous, but at the same time I can’t wait. I love running and (once again) listening to a great podcast. How awesome is it to stay fit while learning something new? (There’s a blogpost coming soon about my favorite podcasts, so stay tuned for that.)

Flea markets are my favorite

Just last Sunday my mom and I went to a lovely local flea market. I love looking through what other people consider their trash and find hidden gems, haha. I actually wrote a separate post about one of the watches you see in the picture above. Even if I can’t find anything at the flea market, I still think it’s a great way to spend my time. Plus, I always strike up conversation with complete strangers, and that’s one of my favorite things to do.

Looking back, may was an amazing month. I got to chill a bit more do fun stuff with friends and family, and I’ve been working out a lot. Yay!

June is going to be an exciting month for me. I’m going to officially graduate college (hopefully) and celebrate my twentieth birthday at the end of the month!

    1. Dankjewel! Nu het wat warmer wordt (oke behalve de afgelopen paar dagen dan) is wandelen ook veel leuker om te doen. 🙂
