Five food-related Netflix documentaries everyone should watch

So, recently I’ve sort of been on a Netflix documentary-bingewatching-spree. If that’s even a thing. I truly believe that watching docu’s is a great way to educate yourself on different subjects, especially if you’re making sure you’re getting all kinds of different perspectives on these subjects.

The last couple months I’ve been more and more interested in health and particularly in the food we’re eating. It’s just so dang interesting to me!

In no particular order, here are five enjoyable Netflix documentaries about food!

  1. Fed Up. Have you ever thought about how long it takes to burn off a serving of french fries? Maybe. And what about the effect of sugars and processed foods on your health? This documentary zooms in on the role of dietary sugar in diabetes and obesity, particularly in children.
  2. Milk? There is a lot of controversy surrounding milk these days, and in this documentary Sebastian Howard tries to find answers. Throughout the journey, he is left with even more questions and he remains confused. What I loved about this documentary is that it really shows different perspectives on this matter – in the end the viewer gets to decide for themselves.
  3. Cowspiracy. If you haven’t seen this you probably live under a rock. In Cowspiracy we follow the journey of an aspiring so called ‘environmentalist’ and the sustainability of meat production. This documentary is more about the environmental effects of our consumption than it is about health, but I included it here because I think it’s a really important topic to discuss.
  4. Vegucated. We follow three Meat Eaters (with capital letters, yes) from New York on a six week vegan journey. I loved seeing how they learned what vegan is all about and how they slowly changed their opinions on the subject.
  5. Bite Size. Child obesity is a big problem, and although this documentary focuses on the United States, more and more people are becoming obese around the world. We follow four obese preteens who struggle with their health. It’s sad at times, but their stories are beautiful and very inspiring.

Don’t get me wrong, I still eat meat, dairy and things that are considered unhealthy from time to time, but far less than before. And even more importantly, I am becoming way more conscious of the things I put into my mouth, partly because of these documentaries.

Have you watched any of these? What did you think? And what other food-related books or documentaries should I be looking into? Let me know!

      1. I’ve seen that one as well but didn’t include it because I feel like everyone has seen that one, haha. Yeah if you think of anything, let me know!
