Books I’ve recently read (and enjoyed!) #1

I feel like I could give this a better title, but oh well. We’re gonna roll with it.

If you’ve added me on Goodreads (great site for anyone who loves stats as much as books) you know that I read a lot. Books are great and I have a lot of them. I also like sharing great things, so here are some of the books that I recently read and enjoyed.

  • At Home – A Short History of Private Life’ by Bill Bryson. I love me some Bill Bryson books. I read ‘The Summer of 1927’ and I’m currently reading ‘A Short History of Nearly Everything.’ This book tells the story of small, every day, sort of insignificant stuff. Like forks, salt and pepper or underwear. Surprisingly interesting and easy to read.
  • ‘Elena Vanishing’ by Elena Dunkle. One of the most powerful memoirs I’ve ever read. ‘Elena Vanishing’ is the story of Elena fighting against Anorexia Nervosa, and in the end recovering from it. I found this book to be quite different from other memoirs about eating disorders. This story if incredibly raw, honest and painful to read at times.
  • ‘Wesley the Owl: The Remarkable Love Story of an Owl and His Girl’ by Stacey O’Brien. This is the story of how biologist Stacey O’Brien adopted a barn owl named Wesley, and took care of him for over 19 years. This wasn’t amazing literature, but it was an amazing story nonetheless. Besides that, I learned a lot about barn owls and only now do I realize how amazing these animals are.
  • ‘Every Last Word’ by Tamara Ireland Stone. This sounds like your typical YA book. and at first that’s what I thought this was – but there is a twist. The reason I picked this up is because the main character, Sam, suffers from OCD and I was interested in learning more about this mental illness.

Have you read any good books recently that you can recommend me? Let me know!
