Everything changes

The weather. My favorite books. People. Places. Life in general. It never stays the same.

I commute the same way to school and/or my internship every single weekday, and every day I’m astonished by how different the same place can look. As the days are getting longer and the sun is getting up earlier, I feel like the short walk I take when I get off the subway is getting a little happier and sunnier as each day passes by.

But I know that’ll pass. After summer ends and the days will start to get shorter, the mornings will be darker and colder again. I will trade in my summer jacket for my winter coat and a scarf on the coldest mornings.

The changes used to bother me a lot. I used to let the weather affect me in my day to day life. I used to overthink it when a significant change happened in my life – trying to figure out where it went wrong what I could have done better.

But I’m starting to love the changes now, and I’m starting to understand that they need to happen because otherwise I will never grow as a person. And that changes are okay. Because in the end, everything changes again.

  1. I know what you mean. There is a nature center about a mile from my house where I like to walk in all seasons. (Just got back from a walk there, actually.) I enjoy watching how the trail changes, the trees change, the water changes… It is a very grounding experience to witness the same place throughout the seasons.
